BBC pundit Alan Shearer makes score prediction for Everton vs Tottenham

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is under huge pressure ahead of the trip to Everton

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Everton this weekend in the Premier League as they look to end their recent slump in form.

Spurs have simply not been good enough in the Premier League and are already a staggering 14 points behind the top four. They were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening, stretching their winless run in the Premier League to five games. Their last top-flight victory came at the home of basement boys Southampton in mid-December.

Ange Postecoglou’s side did manage to get some momentum with cup wins over Liverpool and Tamworth FC, respectively, but they couldn’t reproduce that form against Arsenal in midweek and lost.

Meanwhile, David Moyes has returned to Everton, replacing Sean Dyche at the helm. The Toffees were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa in Moyes’ first game following his return to the club, which stretched their winless run in the league to six games.

-> Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur: Premier League Match Preview

BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer has now dropped his prediction for the Everton vs Tottenham game. He thinks both teams will cancel each other out at Goodison Park.

“This is a big game for both clubs. Everton are at home and they have to improve again. They can’t have another home defeat. On the flip side of that, with Tottenham, they are on a dreadful run of form and I’m not convinced with them at all,” Alan Shearer previewed the game for the Metro.

“I know they’ve got injuries with the centre-backs and the goalkeeper, but Postecoglou came out after their last game and said the first-half performance was not acceptable, which was a big surprise because going into a local derby against your biggest rivals and not being ready for it and up for it was somewhat surprising. I think both teams might take a point here.”

With still many players out of action, including the first-choice centre-back pairing of Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero, it will be a massive challenge for Tottenham to get the better of Everton. Ange Postecoglou has players with individual quality but they will have to click as a unit to collect a much-needed victory in Merseyside.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

In Iliman Ndiaye, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Jesper Lindstrom to name some, Moyes also has good players in his squad who can win matches single-handedly. While on paper Spurs may long stronger than the Toffees, the Big Ange-managed side’s record on their travels makes for grim reading.

Thus, Tottenham players have to be at their best and work extremely hard on Sunday to get a much-needed win and end their slump.
