Report- Tottenham missed out on signing Premier League star for mere pennies

Tottenham Hotspur has always been proactive in the market, but they have suffered difficult fates from restrictive financial approaches from Daniel Levy on multiple occasions that have seen the Lilywhites miss out on multiple players that went on to become a big deal in either the English top tier or other big European leagues.

The chiefs at Hotspur Way have recently started backing Ange Postecoglou with high-profile signings of late whilst also ensuring that they invest in young players that can reap dividends at White Hart Lane for the foreseeable future.

But that doesn’t change how they missed out on big opportunities, like bringing Mohammed Kudus before he went on to become a nightmare in the league with West Ham.

Tottenham missed out on Isak

Spurs could have signed Alexander Isak

Now former Lilywhites scout Bryan King has suggested that the North Londoners could also have brought Isak to Hotspur Way but chose against the decision. In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King insists that Daniel Levy could have signed Alexander Isak before the striker signed for Borussia Dortmund.

He said:

“It is the same with Isak – Tottenham could have signed Isak when he was at AIK Fotboll. I spoke to scouts at Spurs who had put dossiers together on Isak. Again, the recruitment staff at Tottenham at the time obviously ignored the possibility that Isak could be a successful player in the Premier League.

“Borussia Dortmund then came in and paid good money for him – around £6million. I was at Aston Villa and sat with people at Tottenham who were watching him, as I was. You might have thought he was a bit lightweight, but he was a good size, very quick and as far as I knew, Tottenham were far more interested than Aston Villa were.”

Isak has been one of the most prolific strikers in the English top tier since he moved to Newcastle United and has become a nightmare for a lot of elite teams, including Tottenham.

While you understand that the chiefs at the apex are reluctant to flex their financial muscles for a big player, missing out on a player of the Swede’s capabilities when he was worth pennies is a difficult pill to digest.
