Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has come under huge pressure in recent weeks
Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-2 to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday as their freefall in the Premier League continued.
Late goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison were not enough for the North Londoners to stage a gallant comeback as the damage was well and truly done by Everton in the first half—leading 3-0 through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye and an own goal from Archie Gray.
The defeat leaves Spurs sitting 15th in the Premier League table, only eight points clear of the relegation zone. The pressure has cranked up on Ange Postecoglou after a miserable run of results in the Premier League. Former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew criticised the Australian’s tactical stubbornness after Tottenham’s defeat to Everton. Pundit Jamie O’Hara slammed his ex-team’s shocking performance at Goodison Park that hinted at a relegation scramble.
Criticism of Ange Postecoglou is intensifying from all corners of the fanbase and media and questions are beginning to surface whether he still believes in his ambitious project after yet another defeat—the club’s 12th in 22 games.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the Tottenham gaffer was upbeat when asked whether he still believed in the project and in his ability to turn the club’s campaign around. A resolute Postecoglou said:
“No, it doesn’t. If you look at the situation we’re in, it will eventually dissipate. I certainly hope and believe it will.
“We’ll give ourselves the opportunity to get consistency in performance and results. I certainly haven’t lost belief or determination to turn it around and the players showed in the second half that they haven’t either.”
Spurs have won just once in their last 10 Premier League games, so it is no surprise to see questions being asked of Big Ange and his future being discussed. Despite Tottenham’s progress to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they hold a 1-0 first-leg advantage over Liverpool, their Premier League performances and results have been a stark contrast to the promise of delivering a trophy at the start of the season.

Yes, Spurs’ injury list is long. Dominic Solanke was the latest casualty after he tweaked his knee in training last week and subsequently missed the game at Everton. Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma were also unavailable for the trip to Goodison Park. Yet, Big Ange seems to be unable to adapt his side to deal with the setbacks and this rigid approach could lead to his downfall at White Hart Lane.
