Tottenham Hotspur star Brennan Johnson has been ruled out for weeks

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is coming under intense pressure amid his team’s horrendous Premier League form. His men suffered a 3-2 defeat to Everton on Sunday—their 12th defeat of the Premier League campaign.

The Lilywhites have dropped to 15th in the table with only 24 points amassed from 22 games. Injuries to key players have compounded Spurs’ issues, particularly in defence and attack. This has stripped Ange Postecoglou of options whilst leaving him visibly exasperated on the touchline.

There is no doubt about the fact that Tottenham have been on the wrong side of injuries this season, which has seen the majority of the squad visiting the treatment facility at some point. And the North Londoners fell deeper into crisis over the course of the weekend.

Club-record signing Dominic Solanke tweaked his knee in training and subsequently missed the trip to Everton on Sunday. He has been ruled out for a few weeks. Brennan Johnson has also joined the unfortunate list, with Ange Postecoglou confirming that the winger sustained an injury during the second half of Tottenham’s clash with Arsenal last week.

Speaking to the media after the Everton game, the Tottenham gaffer revealed that the Wales international’s injury could keep him out for three to four weeks.

“It’s probably three or four weeks, he did it in the second half against Arsenal the other night. So yeah, we’re looking at three to four weeks,” Postecoglou told Football London.

The injury to Brennan Johnson could not have come at a worse time for Spurs, as we enter a packed schedule across domestic and European competitions. With the severity of the injury now confirmed, the Welshman is set to miss Spurs’ crucial games against Hoffenheim, Leicester City, IF Elfsborg, Brentford, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Big Ange’s attacking options have been further weakened by the 23-year-old’s injury, with Solanke, Werner and Odobert already on the sidelines. His absence for the next weeks creates an immediate problem for the team, especially on the right flank. This means Dejan Kulusevski, who has excelled in a midfield role this season, will have to be moved back to his original right-wing spot to fill in for the injured Johnson.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

The lack of attacking depth currently at White Hart Lane is extremely worrisome, and while there is no immediate fix to the injury crisis, the winter window offers an opportunity for decisive action from Daniel Levy and his team. It is staggering that the club has failed to secure even a single outfield signing thus far even after witnessing our gaffer dealing with so many issues.

Let’s hope the latest double injury blow of Johnson and Solanke accelerates Spurs’ transfer activity.
