“I’m not sure how appealing…” – Club insider speaks about off-field issues for £19m Tottenham-linked ace

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring in some reinforcements in the ongoing winter transfer window as Daniel Levy is looking to aid Ange Postecoglou with depth and dynamism in his roster at Hotspur Way, and as the North Londoners chairman skims through potential players to bring in at N17, he has been offered the chance to sign highly regarded Lyon talent Rayan Cherki, given how the French side is eager to raise funds by cashing in on the 21-year-old playmaker.

He should be available for a bargain £19 million price tag, a fee that would be an easy financial flex for Tottenham.

The Ligue 1 side is reportedly “desperate” to bring in some funds while they have a verbal agreement with Cherki over a potential exit in the current window if a reasonable offer were to come in for his signatures.

However, despite the fact that he is a highly regarded talent, John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, has spoken about his doubts over whether Cherki would end up being suitable at White Hart Lane while also speaking about potential off-field problems that the 21-year-old would bring. The podcast host thinks that it suggests that his personality and behaviour are something that have kept other big clubs from getting their hands on Cherki.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:

“We’re obviously talking about a talented player. However, I’m not sure how appealing the whole package is—in terms of how he carries himself off the pitch. Perhaps that is why he hasn’t moved to another top club yet.

“Other clubs might have already done their due diligence and thought that while he is a talented player, the off-field issues mean it isn’t worth the risk. Otherwise, why hasn’t he gone somewhere else yet?

“I just don’t think he is the type of character we need around the club right now.”

That being said, he is a massive talent, and any club that is able to secure his signature will get a player capable of changing the game on its head.
