Tottenham among the clubs in the fray for PL talent ‘half of Europe’ want to sign

Tottenham are firmly in the mix to sign Southampton talent Tyler Dibling

Tottenham Hotspur’s season went from bad to worse on Sunday when they lost 3-2 to Everton at Goodison Park.

Injuries have completely ruined Spurs’ squad this season and they currently sit in 15th place in the Premier League table, only eight points above the drop zone. Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson were recently added to the injury list and missed the trip to Everton on Sunday, where Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered their 12th defeat of the season.

The pressure on the Australian coach is rising as he faces a potential sack given the underwhelming performances that the Lilywhites are putting in of late. However, Football London journalist Alasdair Gold claims Tottenham don’t have any plans to sack Ange Postecoglou despite a disappointing season, instead, they want to back the gaffer with a few signings in this transfer window.

Now, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Tottenham are ‘heavily involved’ in the race to sign Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling. He also adds that ‘half of Europe’ want to sign the English talent, who is under contract at the St Mary’s Stadium until 2027 (Transfermarkt).

Tyler Dibling burst onto the scene this season in the Premier League and has quickly become a vital component in the Southampton team. Despite being only 18, he has been the Saints’ standout player in an otherwise torrid campaign that looks destined for relegation. The England youth international is proving that he can compete at the highest level, and as a result, he is attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.

New manager Ivan Juric will be desperate to keep hold of Dibling in this transfer window considering the teenage prodigy’s impact in the English top flight. However, with his team rooted at the foot of the table, it will be difficult to convince him to stay and sign a new deal. Should Juric’s side be relegated, teams from all across Europe including Tottenham will potentially get involved in a transfer scramble.

As the versatile attacker still has two-and-a-half-years left in his current deal at the St Mary’s, there is no real hurry for Southampton to accept an offer to sell him this month. However, Tottenham should push for Dibling’s signature as he has shown enough glimpses of his potential in the Premier League. He looks a special talent, as evidenced by his comfort playing on both flanks, through the middle as a No.10 and No.9, or also as a wing-back.

Considering there is going to be plenty of interest in Dibling at the end of the season, Spurs simply cannot sit tight and wait for months to sign him. Instead, the Hotspur Way chiefs must strike now, even if it means paying over the odds to Southampton.
