Blow for Ange as midfield star adds to Tottenham injury list; to miss Hoffenheim tie

Pape Matar Sarr will miss Tottenham’s Europa League game against Hoffenheim

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has constantly cited the injury crisis he’s been enduring this season amid the club’s terrible run of form.

The Australian tactician has been without several key players for weeks and months, which has in turn hampered the team’s progress in his second season in North London. After Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson entered the treatment room last week, it appears as if another player has followed suit.

According to club insider Paul O Keefe, Pape Matar Sarr was forced out of training after suffering an issue on Wednesday morning ahead of Spurs’ trip to Germany to face Hoffenheim in the Europa League. He added the extent of the problem remains clear, though, it is another injury concern for Ange Postecoglou.

“When it rains and all that… Pape Sarr had to pull out of training today. Unsure of the extent of issue. Ange speaking later,” Paul O Keefe tweeted.

The last thing that Tottenham need is another injury but it appears that they have been hit with a potential blow. Pape Matar Sarr joins Yves Bissouma as Tottenham’s midfielders who are currently sidelined, limiting Postecoglou’s hands in terms of rotating personnel in the centre of the park. Earlier this week, some players had questioned the gaffer’s training methods and the taxing fixture schedule, and Sarr’s fresh concern could be a result of that.

Postecoglou doubled down on Paul O Keefe’s claims on the Senegalese international, stating that he’d taken a slight knock from the weekend’s 3-2 defeat at Everton. He also added in his press conference that Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon aren’t available due to them not being registered in the Spurs squad for the Europa League group stages, but Rodrigo Bentancur is back in the squad.

It has been a bittersweet day on the injury front for the Lilywhites, with Sarr being forced off training with a slight knock and Bentancur returning after a horrific clash of heads in the 1-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals earlier this month. In addition, Cristian Romero has also returned to training after being sidelined for months but has not travelled with the squad to Germany.
