Tottenham seeking loan-to-buy option to land Barcelona attacker

Once a wunderkind, Ansu Fati’s star has fallen off a cliff in recent years as the Barcelona #10 struggles with injury and form, currently looking for regular game time to get himself back up to speed.

It looks like Tottenham are willing to offer him that chance, though there is a catch.

Tottenham looking for loan-to-buy option for Ansu Fati

As reported by GiveMeSport, Tottenham are willing to make a move for Barcelona forward Ansu Fati in the ongoing transfer window but only want a short-term loan deal with an option to buy.

The 22-year-old’s fortunes have fallen a long way since he made a name for himself as a teenager at Camp Nou and inherited the #10 shirt after Leo Messi’s departure.

Ever since becoming injury-prone, Fati has become a pit-part player for Barça, who are now happy to let him leave and get his £226,000-per-week contract off their wage bill. He has made eight appearances this season with zero direct goal involvements.

Fati has played in the Premier League before. He was on loan at Brighton last season but failed to impress during another injury-ridden campaign as a calf issue kept him out for over two months. In all, he made 19 appearances in the Premier League, scoring two goals.

TTLB Opinion

A six-month loan proposition is low-risk enough for Tottenham to take a punt on Fati, but the signs so far indicate things are not going too well.

Fati is already injury-prone, and given the recent track record of both Spurs and Ange Postecoglou, it doesn’t look like things would improve for anyone.

Still, Spurs need forwards, and Fati would make up the numbers they need, though for how long he’d be available for selection is anyone’s guess.
