Tottenham star Dominic Solanke’s injury is bad news for Will Lankshear
Tottenham Hotspur have yet to register any transfer activity after welcoming goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky at the start of January.
Spurs have recently missed out on the signing of Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani, whose loan move to Juventus became official this week. There has been a clear need for a back-up striker, and now with the club-record acquisition Dominic Solanke injured, there is desperation within the club to land a new frontman.
Ange Postecoglou has suffered another big injury blow with Dominic Solanke set to be out until mid-March. The England international twisted his knee while taking a shot on his own in training last week, subsequently missing the games against Everton and Hoffenheim. It puts the 27-year-old in a race against time to be fit for the Carabao Cup final on March 16, which Spurs will be competing in if they can see off Liverpool.

While this is a huge setback for Ange Postecoglou and the Tottenham fans, it perhaps comes as an even bigger blow to Will Lankshear. The Spurs boss earlier this month had revealed plans to send Will Lankshear out on loan for the remainder of the season to get regular minutes.

Having barely played for the senior team since the start of last month despite an injury crisis, the academy starlet will certainly want to go out on loan and get minutes under his belt. As a result, the striker has also shown willingness to make a temporary exit from Tottenham.
Now, reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham thinks Solanke’s injury has likely put a spanner in Lankshear’s hopes of seeking a loan exit away from the club.
“I think Lankshear was quite close to leaving on loan already,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“It sounds like the Solanke injury halted that move. Therefore, I imagine if Spurs sign another striker, Lankshear’s loan move can be resurrected very quickly, and he will leave.
“However, as of now, he is staying put. It was good to see him come on against Hoffenheim, and hopefully, he can get some minutes off the bench against Leicester.”

Tottenham chiefs have been trying to sign a striker for weeks now, but to no avail. Certainly, Solanke set for a long spell on the sidelines should intensify the pursuit of a new No.9, with the likes of Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez and Ajax’s Brian Brobbey linked with moves to White Hart Lane of late.

However, this has put Lankshear’s immediate future at the club in jeopardy. He has clocked only 146 minutes for the senior Spurs side this season, including an 11-minute cameo in the 3-2 Europa League win over Hoffenheim in midweek.

This certainly has to change and more minutes must be handed to Lankshear if he is forced to stay put, starting with Sunday’s game against relegation-threatened Leicester City.
