Mikey Moore impressed as a substitute in Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Hoffenheim
Tottenham Hotspur picked up a crucial 3-2 away win over Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday night.
A Son Heung-min brace and a strike from James Maddison secured the three points for Spurs and moved into the top eight of the Europa League group stage. The result also did alleviate some of the pressure on Ange Postecoglou, whose future at White Hart Lane has been the talking point in recent weeks.
The Australian tactician has had to constantly chop and change personnel in his starting XI for months now due to his squad being decimated by injuries. The North Londoners travelled to Hoffenheim with 14 players unavailable and could only name an eight-man bench which included two goalkeepers and six teenagers. They ended the game with five teenagers on the pitch, including Mikey Moore.

Mikey Moore returned to action earlier this month after being out for almost two months with illness. The teenager has earned some minutes since coming back to the first team. He came off the bench in the second half in Spurs’ 3-2 Europa League win over Hoffenheim in Germany.

And now John Wenham—the owner of the reputable Spurs podcast the Lilywhite Rose—expects Moore to start against Leicester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“I want to give a shoutout to Moore for his cameo against Hoffenheim,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“He came on and grabbed himself another assist, which means that is now back-to-back assists for him off the bench. He is clearly becoming more and more established in the first team.
“I’m hoping to see him start against Leicester. I expected him to start against Hoffenheim. Therefore, because he didn’t, I expect him to start on Sunday.”

Arguably the brightest talent emerging from Tottenham academy perhaps since Harry Kane, Moore was enjoying his breakout season with the senior team before contracting a virus in November. Unfortunately, the bad virus had sidelined the young winger for almost two months before he finally fully recovered and returned to action against non-league side FC Tamworth in the FA Cup third round earlier this month.

The Southwark-born talent made a telling impact after coming off the bench in midweek, using his pace, directness and energy to stretch Hoffenheim just when they were getting a firm grip on the game. He made a vital contribution by assisting skipper Son Heung-min for his second goal—which eventually turned out to be the winner at the PreZero Arena. And with that, that academy starlet has now bagged back-to-back assists off the bench for Postecoglou’s side.

With the squad stretched thin due to injuries, Big Ange must still find a way to rotate his squad. Leicester City are in a dismal form and head to North London off the back of seven straight defeats. So, the Tottenham boss may consider this as an ideal opportunity to hand Moore a chance from the onset and back him to play freely against the Foxes.
