Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur have yet to make an addition to their squad after securing goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky’s signature from Slavia Prague at the start of the January transfer window. However, as per reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club are expected to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s injury-ravaged squad before the transfer window slams shut.

The North London outfit has slipped to a lowly 15th on the table following just one win in 10 Premier League games. This has led to a lot of speculation around Ange Postecoglou’s future at the club, although the hierarchy are backing him to turn things around but quickly.

Postecoglou has been extremely unfortunate with injuries in his second season at N17, which has directly hampered his team’s performances and results. Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson were the latest injury casualties to enter the treatment table last week, with the attacking duo ruled out for several weeks.

This leaves our gaffer with only recognised and senior forward options in Son Heung-min and Richarlison, but with both also having sustained injuries this season, the requirement for a new forward has become obvious.

According to a report from TEAMTalk, Tottenham are continuing to chase the signature of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. However, there are a couple of potential obstacles that could force the Hotspur Way chiefs to abandon a deal.

Chelsea are also keen on Liam Delap but Spurs are confident they could beat their bitter London rivals to his services. The 21-year-old has caught the eye with eight goals in 22 Premier League matches for Ipswich Town after his summer move from Manchester City to Portman Road. Thus, it is not hard to see why he is wanted by several top clubs in the Premier League.

The aforementioned report adds that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not ready to overpay for any player and is reluctant to join a transfer battle for the Ipswich Town striker. The Tractor Boys are also not ready to make a mid-season sale, so only a premium could turn their heads. Another issue that could skyrocket the price is the fact that Manchester City also have a sell-on clause for Delap.

However, regardless of all the supposed hurdles in the way of a deal, it is believed that if Tottenham want Delap this transfer window they can land him. The Englishman ticks a lot of boxes for Postecoglou’s system and can be a long-term investment for the North Londoners, possibly replacing Richarlison if he exits the club during the ongoing winter window or in the summer.

Given the problems Big Ange has been facing and Tottenham’s position in the Premier League table, Levy must show ambition and go all out for Delap’s signature before the transfer deadline.
