Ange handed boost as injury hit Tottenham attacker is set to return to training in February

Tottenham Hotspur will expedite signing a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window.

Tottenham winger Wilson Odobert has been sidelined for months following hamstring surgery

It looks like Tottenham Hotspur’s long-term casualties are on the comeback trail one after another.

The White Hart Lane faithful, who would have been exasperated by the news of the double injury blow to Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson before the Everton game last week, had something to smile about on Wednesday when Cristian Romero was pictured training with his teammates.

Romero has not played for Spurs since the start of December due to a quad problem. Thus, his road to recovery from injury should potentially represent a big boost for Ange Postecoglou. It also emerged that the Argentinean’s centre-back partner Micky van de Ven is expected to resume training next week. Van de Ven has struggled with persistent hamstring issues, so we can expect Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff to ease the Dutchman into action step-by-step.

Now, French outlet L’Equipe has dropped a positive injury update on Wilson Odobert. They claim the young winger is expected to return to training at the start of February. In fact, he could ‘resume on-field sessions’ by February 4.

Wilson Odobert joined Tottenham from Championship side Burnley last summer. Regardless of not making an assist or scoring a goal, the Frenchman had a positive start to life at N17 and showed flashes of potential before suffering a hamstring injury in September. It ruled him out of action for a month.

Although he made a brief return to action in the Europa League against AZ Alkmaar in late October, the 20-year-old aggravated the injury, requiring surgery. Odobert went under the knife in November and has since required a substantial recovery period. Despite the lengthy recovery time, the France youth international remains focused on getting back to full fitness.

The update from L’Equipe suggests that Odobert has started working outdoors, making the first step in his journey to returning to full training in the first week of February. While this is a promising sign for the attacker, his return is expected to take time with the report adding that Odobert will be fit to play competitive football for Spurs by the start of March.
