Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new midfielder in the 2025 transfer interval given how the roster at Hotspur Way is short of players in the middle of the park at the moment, and Manchester United academy graduate Angel Gomes has been linked with a probable move to White Hart Lane.
The 24-year-old England international has been putting in some impressive performances in Ligue 1 that have drawn attention from multiple sides, including Manchester United and West Ham.
Gomes could be what Tottenham needs

For the Lilywhites, any interest in Gomes comes in line with the need for midfield reinforcement that Ange Postecoglou has been advocating for, given how the Englishman would bring creativity, technical skill, and versatility in the middle of the park. Gomes’ ability to operate in multiple roles, from a central playmaker to a more advanced attacking midfielder, will add massive tactical flexibility to how the dynamics that the Australian head coach operates in.
And he also combines the transfer strategy at Hotspur Way with his young age, complemented by his level of maturity and adaptability that can complement the North Londoners ambitions.
Thinking about Lille and only Lille
Amid reports, the 24-year-old is concentrating on his time at Lille at the moment. Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano quoted him as saying:
“I’m aware of clubs enquiring about my situation, but I’m now completely focused on Lille. I want to finish the season in the best way possible, and then we will see what happens. I’m focused on the present and not on negotiations”.
Wages?
While Tottenham can land him on a free transfer for the summer, Gomes will be asking for a fee in the region of £150,000 per week, per GMS, while it shouldn’t be a problem for a club that flexes the finances of the Premier League’s big six—it is to be seen if Daniel Levy, who has worked hard to maintain the wage bill, will sanction those numbers.
Given that he comes without any transfer fee, the overall fees of the transaction get balanced in a way, and it shouldn’t be a problem to pay him those numbers.
