“He was probably promised…” – Club insider makes Tottenham promise claim for 2024 Next Gen star

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly had to brush through ample competition from multiple Premier League sides to land George Feeney, with the teenager who signed from Glentoran in the last summer transfer window having made a heavy impression since moving to White Hart Lane, which also earned him a spot in The Guardian’s Next Generation series for 2024.

And the North Londoners have taken another step to securing his future at N17 with the 17-year-old penning down his first professional contract.

Tottenham made a promise?

Opinion: Tottenham need to bid Ange Postecoglou farewell, but Massimiliano Allegri is not the answer.
Daniel Levy might have made a Feeney promise

John Wenham, owner of the highly reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, insists that Tottenham may have promised a professional contract to the teenager as a part of landing his signatures. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:

“I imagine that this was simply a formality. He was probably promised a professional contract when he first joined the club, to attract him. He would have signed a scholarship agreement with the guarantee of a professional contract.

“Feeney arrived as a striker but has converted into a midfielder, and he has done well to do that. He is a good prospect who needs to keep working hard, and I suppose the plan for him will be to feature as a mainstay in the Under-21s team next season.”

Feeney is a highly rated prospect

Feeney is a versatile profile who has originally been a striker converted into a midfielder that shows his promise and potential, and the 17-year-old has been showcasing the glimpses of his potential in the youth sides at N17, and there would be plans for him to play a prominent role in the Under-21s next season.

However, while understanding his next steps, for now, his professional contract displays a bright spot in what has been a difficult campaign at White Hart Lane. This also complies with Daniel Levy’s new transfer policy that complements the North Londoners to build for the long term with high potential and young signings.

It is to be seen how Feeny continues to progress, and the Lilywhites supporters would be excited about the prospects of having the teenager at N17.
