“Shouldn’t have played…” – Postecoglou insists this Tottenham player played through injury vs Leicester

Postecoglou insists Tottenham star Pape Matar Sarr played through injury vs Leicester.

Tottenham Hotspur have been enduring a difficult season at White Hart Lane as their struggles continued as the Lilywhites suffered a 2-1 defeat against Leicester City in the Premier League yesterday with Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss getting on the scoresheets to take away all three points despite Richarlison’s early goal.

This leaves the North Londoners scrambling in the English top tier as the defeat against the Foxes marked their 13th in the league of the ongoing campaign, with Postecoglou’s side taking up only one point in the previous seven fixtures.

The pressure continues to mount on the Australian head coach given the increasing frustration of the supporters despite the fact that the North Londoners are playing with a highly injury-depleted team at the moment, causing a sense of inconsistency and incompetence. And in the postgame presser, Ange Postecoglou revealed that he had to play Pape Sarr through injury given the lack of options at his disposal.

Speaking via. Football.London, Ange said:

“I’ve said all along, the players need help and I’ve also said the club are working hard in that area to try to alleviate some of those problems, because Pape Sarr shouldn’t have played today. He obviously wasn’t fit.”

“The players are going out there and giving everything then can because we can’t call off games. We’ve got another game in three days’ time that these players have to front up for.”

Time for transfers?

While the criticism could fairly be aimed at Postecoglou and his squad, it’s time for club chairman Daniel Levy to deliver with transfers before the end of the ongoing transfer window amid the wrath of sack on the former Celtic manager.

Now going into the final seven days of the transfer window, it is to be seen if the North Londoners can successfully bring in a few players through the doors at White Hart Lane and aid the injury concerns to Postecoglou.
