Tottenham enquire about Feyenoord defender David Hancko

Tottenham are interested in signing Feyenoord defender David Hancko

Tottenham Hotspur endured another grim afternoon in the Premier League as they tasted a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The North Londoners were 1-0 up against a struggling Leicester City side but capitulated in dramatic fashion to pile more pressure on Ange Postecoglou. They have been failing to put an end to their Premier League rut and currently sit 15th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.

In a season of lows, this was the worst result for injury-ravaged Spurs. Despite the unprecedented injury situation, their league position is simply not good enough.

Ange Postecoglou has been in the market for defensive and attacking reinforcements, following an injury crisis that has seen key players miss significant portions of the campaign. in terms of options in defence, the Greek-Australian has had to rely on young midfielder Archie Gray operating as a makeshift central defender due to injuries to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

As Spurs have been leaking goals at an alarming rate, it is not surprising that they have been scouring the market for a quality centre-back. The Lilywhites have been linked with several defenders over the past few months, including Feyenoord’s David Hancko.

Now, according to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are eyeing a move for David Hancko, having made an enquiry to Feyenoord about the defender’s potential availability. They aren’t the only club interested, though. Chelsea are also vying for the Feyenoord star’s signature.

Hancko has established himself as Feyenoord’s defensive lynchpin in the last couple of years. The hugely coveted Slovakian international has aided the Eredivisie club’s qualification for the Champions League, racking up 27 appearances across all competitions this season. He has chipped in with three goals and four assists.

Clubs across Europe including Juventus and Atletico Madrid are keeping a close eye on the 27-year-old’s availability, but the aforementioned report adds Feyenoord are firm in their stance that he will not be sold in this January transfer window. It is thought that a fee in the region of €50 million could make a deal possible in the summer.

At this moment, Juventus are frontrunners for Hancko’s services, though, the race is wide open for other clubs to make a move. As the Eredivisie outfit are believed to be valuing their star defender at around €50 million in the summer, it is quite apparent that it would take a lot more than that fee to persuade them to consider selling the player now.

This would be beyond Tottenham’s reach as the club are operating on a tight January budget. While the North Londoners have enquired about Hancko, we have to be realistic and go for another defender who will fit the bill now.
