Tottenham reject opportunity to sign forward who was on fire under Ange at Celtic

Tottenham, currently enduring a major injury crisis and getting as low as the 15th place, are facing a tough period. With the transfer window nearing its close, TBR Football understands that Tottenham have turned down the opportunity to make an offer for Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi, who now appears poised to join Rennes. The club is still looking to bring in an attacker with less than a week left in the January transfer window, especially as Dominic Solanke is set to miss several weeks through injury.

With Dominic Solanke out for as long as six weeks because of a knee injury he picked up in training, Ange Postecoglou is calling on Tottenham to find a replacement. Spurs had the opportunity to make a move for one of Postecoglou’s former favorites, Kyogo Furuhashi, but they have opted to focus on other targets. Although he may not be the tallest forward, the Japanese striker has been exceptional for Celtic, demonstrating his impressive skills.

Tottenham reportedly declined the opportunity to sign the Celtic star

The Japan international Kyogo Furuhashi made his move to Celtic in 2021 and has been clinical, netting an impressive 104 goals in 165 appearances while securing all major domestic trophies with the Scottish giants. Despite his achievements, Tottenham has opted not to chase a deal for Furuhashi, as reported by TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

The North London club has explored several attacking options across Europe but has yet to make concrete moves. Furuhashi now appears set to join Rennes for approximately £10 million, with Ipswich and Leicester also expressing interest.

The 30-year-old rose to prominence under Ange Postecoglou, who signed him from the Japanese top-flight and relied on him to secure a league and cup double for Celtic.

Tottenham will aim to maximise the remaining seven days of the transfer window to address their injury crisis, with new signings poised to provide much-needed reinforcements. While Furuhashi might not have been the ideal fit for a team reliant on height, his connection with Ange Postecoglou could have brought a unique dimension to Spurs’ game.
