“Wake up call”- Tottenham backed to dip into the market to address key squad need this January

Harry Redknapp thinks Ange Postecoglou is under pressure at Tottenham Hotspur.

With only days remaining before the conclusion of the ongoing winter transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur need to take charge of the deals quickly given the mounting pressure on Ange Postecoglou as he continues to rile up the North Londoners amid the shortcomings of his squad at Hotspur Way. Despite securing the early signing of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky this window, the Lilywhites are yet to compound that with an outfield player as the supporters continue to get frustrated about the lack of signings.

Now, the injury list got a new addition as summer’s marquee arrival, Dominic Solanke, has taken up a bed in the treatment room, with the former Chelsea ace expected to be serving the sidelines for about six weeks or so. Solanke’s unavailability will become a problem given how Tottenham lacks another clinical centre forward, especially with the Carabao Cup campaign on the line.

Postecoglou is enduring tough time with injuries in his squad this season

John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, has spoken about his frustration with the lack of signings at White Hart Lane this winter, and he remains hopeful that the club can bring in a new striker before the conclusion of the winter window on February 3. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:

“Solanke being ruled out for six weeks is awful news. Whatever the club have been doing for the last few weeks hasn’t been good enough in terms of supporting the manager with signings. Therefore, hopefully, this acts as a wake-up call.

“Losing your best player for six weeks is a phenomenal blow. Therefore, I’d imagine that talks are now going on in the background to get a new striker through the door as soon as possible.”

The Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool will be played on February 6 at Anfield, and while Tottenham goes into the game with a 1-0 lead, they do lack attacking options; given Richarlison is currently available, his injury history casts doubt on his reliability.
