Will Lankshear’s Tottenham exit plans halted by Dominic Solanke’s injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury problems have been persisting since the campaign got underway and their offensive depth has been trimmed on several occasions. Dominic Solanke is among Ange Postecoglou’s most recent casualties with the Englishman expected to miss out a couple of weeks at least, with no natural first-team backup available behind him apart from the underperforming Timo Werner.

Solanke has been in fine form for Tottenham in his maiden season and so his injury comes at a terrible time, especially with Postecoglou’s role under pressure owing to recent results in the Premier League. As it stands, the team and the manager are not the only one frustrated as Tottenham Hotspur News claims that the forward’s situation has worked against Will Lankshear too.

Lankshear played the odd games for Spurs at the start of 2024/25 but was always an understudy behind Solanke. With Richarlison now back from injury, the youngster has dropped down the pecking order and a departure for greener pastures in January remained a distinct possibility on loan to gain some first-team minutes under his belt.

John Wenham believes the 19-year-old will now end up staying at Hotspur Way until the summer, as a result.

“It sounds like the Solanke injury halted that move. Therefore, I imagine if Spurs sign another striker, Lankshear’s loan move can be resurrected very quickly, and he will leave. However, as of now, he is staying put. It was good to see him come on against Hoffenheim, and hopefully, he can get some minutes off the bench against Leicester.”

From a Tottenham perspective, it would have been the ideal time to send Lankshear on loan but with less than a week until the transfer window concludes and their fitness issues showing no signs of slowing down, the Lilywhites are very much in the right to hold onto him. It is debatable, however, as to what the situation may have been if Daniel Levy was more active in the transfer market.

It will be interesting to see what comes of Lankshear’s future in the summer transfer window, more so if Tottenham manage to clear their deadweight at the end of the campaign.
