Ange Postecoglou gives a passive response to Daniel Levy criticism
Tottenham Hotspur fans are experiencing one of their club’s worst Premier League seasons in recent years and are making their feelings clear. While Ange Postecoglou has already had his fair share of detractors, the fingers are also starting to be pointed towards the club’s chief, Daniel Levy, for his lack of efforts in rebuilding the squad in spite of several injuries and underperforming players.
The fans held a banner questioning the current leadership’s lack of success over the past couple of decades and more during Spurs’ defeat to Leicester City. A section of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was vocally criticising Levy as well during the match and Postecoglou was quizzed about the unpromising atmosphere at home during the game. He said the following regarding the issue (h/t Football London).
“Certainly something I wanted to try and do when I took on this role is to try to unify the club and create an environment here where we are all focused on the one thing. Obviously it hasn’t worked out that way. It’s understandable, like you said, the fans are not happy with our current situation. It is a difficult one to navigate because we need them right now, especially at home to create an atmosphere. It wasn’t that long ago we played Liverpool here and it was a great night. Everyone was focused on the one thing. Like I said, the one thing I keep saying and I think it is important to acknowledge, the players are giving everything for this club and I think that is something that needs to be acknowledged by everyone.”
While Postecoglou might be shown the door sooner or later if performances don’t improve and could be employed by a better club, Tottenham fans fear facing the club’s same old cycle all over again – a hire-and-fire culture, lack of support for a world-class head coach, substandard players and then a repeat of the situation once more.
The club’s biggest stakeholders, the supporters, definitely deserve a lot better and Levy is doing everything but looking after Tottenham’s sporting welfare and progress.

After as terrible a January transfer window they have had, a piece of silverware might be seen more as a miracle than an achievement that most expect and for better or for worse, the squad’s frailties might not be masked, if Levy thinks through that angle. The end of the season could see the board face the wrath of the Tottenham fans and only time will tell if there are any plans to improve the squad in the summer to satisfy the board’s vocal critics.
