Tottenham have pulled the plug on three potential Chelsea deals
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has struggled to cope with the waves of injuries to his squad this season.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven—Spurs’ first-choice centre-back pairing—have missed significant chunks of the campaign with their respective fitness issues. Their continued absences, along with No.1 Guglielmo Vicario, and regular left-back Destiny Udogie, has harmed the team’s performance levels and results.
Having been without Romero and Van de Ven for months now, Ange Postecoglou has been forced to use teenage midfield prodigy Archie Gray as a makeshift centre-back alongside Radu Dragusin. Full-back Djed Spence has also deputised at centre-half at times. This makes it quite evident that a reinforcement to the defensive depth is paramount for the Lilywhites.

Now, according to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham’s idea to sign Chelsea players Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on loan have collapsed.
The North London side looked at Chelsea defenders Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi as possible stopgap solutions for their defensive crisis earlier this month when both Romero and Van de Ven were sidelined, but they have not managed to get them. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was also looked at to improve the midfield depth.
However, the aforementioned report adds that with both Romero and Van de Ven nearing full fitness, Tottenham have pulled the plug on those potential deals. Plus, the club’s primary focus is on recruiting a forward as club-record signing Dominic Solanke has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a knee injury. Brennan Johnson has also suffered an injury and will be out for multiple weeks.
Tottenham are in dire need of reinforcements before the February 3 transfer deadline. However, they have done a sensible job to pull the plug on potential deals for the Chelsea outcasts.

Disasi and Badiashile have proven to be error-prone during their tenure at Stamford Bridge, while Dewsbury-Hall has surprisingly been a cast-off despite working under current Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca at Leicester City in the Championship last season.

Our club’s poor planning and lackadaisical approach in the transfer market had left us scrambling for the signatures of Chelsea players who aren’t apparently in Maresca’s plans moving forward. While we have decided to not pursue the Blues’ trio, Romero and Van de Ven nearing full fitness should not stop Tottenham from signing a centre-back in this transfer window. it should be held in the same priority list as that of a forward.
