Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has been linked with a move to Tottenham

Tottenham are expected to make a signing or two before the January transfer window slams shut to make up for lost numbers and continue rebuilding the squad after the arrival of Antonin Kinsky.

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has been linked with a move to Spurs in recent weeks. The 27-year-old has been linked with an exit from his boyhood club ever since falling out of favour with their new boss, Ruben Amorim.

The forward doesn’t stylistically fit in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, and with Man United at the risk of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach, selling Rashford—an academy graduate—would instantly help ease their financial issues. Moving him on would generate the Red Devils’ pure profit and comply with the Premier League’s PSR in order to have strong financial footing going into this year’s summer transfer window.

Several European clubs have been vying for the England international’s signature since the start of the winter transfer window. The speculation regarding Rashford has been gathering even more pace because of his reputation and not form this season, which have been deemed average at best in stark contrast to his performances from the 2022/23 campaign.

Football pundit and TV commentator Ian Darke has tipped Tottenham to focus on midfield signings rather than spending time and money on Rashford. He has claimed that the Man United outcast would not get in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

“Players like the forwards they’ve been linked with aren’t what they need. I don’t get where the likes of Rashford and Kolo Muani would’ve got in the team anyway. They have players like Kulusevski, Son, Maddison and Solanke,” Ian Darke exclusively told Tottenham News.

“I don’t think that’s where they need reinforcements. Central midfield is where I think they need to strengthen with another quality signing.

“Bergvall is coming through, but Bissouma has been hit-and-miss this season and they don’t have many options performing well.”

Can Tottenham make a statement by signing Marcus Rashford on loan?

Tottenham are in dire need of reinforcements in both defence and attack following rotten luck with injuries this season. The North London club simply can’t afford to stand still in the January window with club-record signing Dominic Solanke now adding to their unprecedented injury woes. Brennan Johnson has also been ruled out for a few weeks, leaving Big Ange with a threadbare attacking unit.

It is crystal clear that Spurs require forwards who will not only improve Big Ange’s starting XI but also add much-needed depth to the squad. Not to forget, Richarlison suffered a fresh injury setback during the 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, which potentially means Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and young Mikey Moore are the only fit attacking options currently at the Australian tactician’s disposal.

That being said, we respectfully disagree with Darke’s opinion of Spurs not needing a new forward. A player like Rashford could make a huge difference to a Tottenham squad bereft of confidence, quality and options. However, the Man United forward’s exorbitant wages could eventually prove a roadblock if our club are to intensify interest in signing him—perhaps even on loan.
