How could Ange Postecoglou set Tottenham up against Aston Villa in the FA Cup

Tottenham Hotspur far from done as January transfer window draws to a close

Tottenham Hotspur’s poor form in the Premier League needs no introduction as they sit 15th in the league standings. And while Ange Postecoglou has obviously been under pressure, it would be unfair to entirely blame the Australian for the team’s performances as he has had to deal with a fair share of injury problems ever since the campaign got underway in August last year.

Yet, he has managed to do a decent job in the Europa League and Carabao Cup, whilst also clearing the first round of the FA Cup a few weeks ago. The team’s defeat to Leicester City last weekend raised a number of eyebrows as the fans finally pointed out at Daniel Levy’s unwillingness to build a robust squad as well as the lack of success that the club has enjoyed under his tutelage.

In the aftermath of the loss against the Foxes, it came to light that Tottenham Hotspur are planning to improve their roster before the end of the winter transfer window’s deadline on Monday, February 3rd, with TEAMtalk reporting that Ange Postecoglou’s role as the manager remains safe for the time being and newer acquisitions, as many as three of them, could be made in a few days.

Southampton star Tyrel Dibling and Lille midfielder Angel Gomes are the two players Spurs are already speaking with. Dibling is one of the Premier League’s best young talents where Gomes’ contract at Lille expires in six months, and with no renewal as yet in France for the Englishman, the Lilywhites are hoping to secure his purchase on a bargain deal ahead of the deadline day to see off competition ahead of the summer, when several European sides may declare interest in him.

That said, a couple of attacking names are also on Tottenham’s radar with Ipswich Town star Liam Delap and Ajax Amsterdam forward Brian Brobbey reported to be in the picture. Both players have made decent starts to the season and are on Tottenham’s radar as they look for an offensive star as well following Dominic Solanke’s injury last week.

It remains to be seen what comes of the newer signings for Tottenham Hotspur, although it is surprising to see them going for midfielders, Dibling and Gomes when their engine room has been the least of their concerns. Brobbey or Delap would be great purchases, however, and if made in time, it could lead to Will Lankshear’s departure elsewhere on loan too.
