Ange Postecoglou backed to stay at Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season
Ange Postecoglou’s role at Tottenham Hotspur remains safe for the immediate future but many speculate that if the team falters against Liverpool next week in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Daniel Levy may have the tough conversation with the Australian and for the third time in recent years, Ryan Mason might have to lead the side until the end of the campaign.
Spurs have been extremely poor in the Premier League this season, so their only metric of judgement will be the performances in the cup competitions hereon. While several believe the manager must be fired on the basis of the team’s league displays, the Carabao Cup and Europa League have been the Australian’s saving grace for the past couple of months.
Many continue to back Postecoglou as the manager, at least until the end of the season with former Spurs goalkeeper Michel Vorm joining those siding with the boss. He was quoted saying the following by Express.
“The issue lies deeper than just the manager. The players were trying hard, the commitment was good, but it seems whatever the players are trying, just isn’t coming off. If you don’t have the answer then there is no point letting the manager go. There is no clear manager who can come in and transform the team. So it’s more of a review at the end of the season and then look to evaluate then.”
One of the major differences between Antonio Conte’s and Jose Mourinho’s contract terminations at Tottenham Hotspur and their current situation surrounding Ange Postecoglou is that with the former managers, there seemed to be ongoing problems in the dressing room although in this case, there seems like a sense of unity within the players and perhaps the board is more deserving of the blame.
Spurs’ problems need to raise questions at several members within the club besides Postecoglou. Daniel Levy has made just one signing so far in January in spite of over half the squad being injured, whereas there has been no criticism of the medical team whatsoever, especially because players like Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Richarlison have been injured in quick succession.

Vorm’s verdict makes the utmost sense because it is high time that Tottenham stopped scapegoating the manager for every single failure and see the bigger problem, which could lie in their recruitment team as well as within those responsible for sanctioning transfer activities.
