Tottenham urged to drop £60m for electric Premier League attacker who might be Saudi bound

Tottenham Hotspur have been urged to make a move for Jhon Duran

Tottenham Hotspur desperately need a new striker before the February 3rd transfer deadline.

The central defensive unit was the main problem for Ange Postecoglou heading into January, as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies were all sidelined, leading to young midfielder Archie Gray operating in a makeshift role.

Now with Davies having recovered from his hamstring injury and returned to the team, and both Van de Ven and Romero on the comeback trail, the club’s transfer priority have seemingly changed.

The North Londoners’ offensive unit have been hit with injuries of late, with club-record signing Dominic Solanke suffering a knee problem on the training pitch. The England international has now been ruled out until mid-March, and with Richarlison also potentially suffering a fresh injury setback during Sunday’s embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, Ange Postecoglou has no natural senior strikers available at his disposal.

This has made the signing of a new striker an absolute necessity. Former Leicester City manager Martin Allen believes Tottenham could plot a swoop for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran as a cover for the injured Solanke. However, he feels the North Londoners may struggle to strike a deal with Aston Villa so late in the transfer window.

“Will they want to get someone else in for £50-60m?” Martin Allen exclusively told Tottenham News.

“Maybe Duran for £60m but then when Solanke comes back so it’ll be interesting to see if Tottenham want to do that.

“It’s a fine line bringing people in at this stage and getting them out of other clubs because they won’t want to lose their best players in January.

“This window has proved to be a difficult one to get players in.”

There are no questions at all that Jhon Duran would be a sensational signing for Tottenham after what has been a breakout season at Villa Park. The South American, who started as a second-fiddle to Ollie Watkins at the start of the 2024/25 campaign, has netted 12 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.

The 21-year-old has been in stellar form for Unai Emery’s side but has yet to nail down a starting berth, starting just four of 20 Premier League games while in competition with Ollie Watkins. A straight red card against Newcastle United on Boxing Day derailed Duran’s starting role, ruling him out for the next three games.

The Colombian is now one of the hottest commodities in the Premier League, but with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr pushing to reach a verbal agreement with Villa for him, should Tottenham try hijacking a deal? Given Villa will be reluctant to sell one of their valuable assets to Spurs and strengthen us for the second half of the season, there is no point in making a move for Duran.

Instead, Spurs should look at other striker targets and try getting in one body before next week’s deadline.
