Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel is being considered by Tottenham Hotspur

We have entered the final week of the January transfer window, and things are getting desperate for Tottenham Hotspur.

The North Londoners have been in the transfer market for a forward for quite some time now. They wanted Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain but the Frenchman joined Juventus on loan earlier this month. Several forwards have been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, including Ajax’s Brian Brobbey.

Spurs are exploring a few avenues before the February 3rd transfer deadline, and as per reports out of Germany, they are now looking at a forward from Bayern Munich.

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Tottenham are now in “direct talks” with the management of Mathys Tel. He reported via his X account that Spurs are now “very interested” in acquiring the services of the Bayern Munich starlet, although the race for his signature is wide open with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea also keen.

Rated as one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga, it is understandable why Mathys Tel has so many teams in the race for his signature. Signed from Rennes in 2022, the teenager has contributed 16 goals and seven assists in 83 appearances for Bayern Munich thus far. However, the Frenchman has struggled for minutes at Bayern under Vincent Kompany this season, starting only two Bundesliga games thus far.

Despite widespread interest from English and European clubs, it was surprising that Kompany decided to hand Tel a start in Bayern’s Champions League tie with Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday evening. Starting on the left flank, the Sarcelles-born talent played 62 minutes as the Bavarians beat Slovan Bratislava 3-1 to qualify for the knockouts.

Given the 19-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit in recent days, it would currently appear those minutes could be his last in a Bayern shirt, a conclusion that was supported by the club’s sporting director Max Eberl. He has confirmed that Tel wants to leave Allianz Arena in this transfer window, with the German champions considering both a loan and a permanent deal.

Tel is a very talented player with a high ceiling. He would bring a lot of pace, dynamism, directness and energy to Tottenham. The France under-21 international can operate on the left and through the middle as a No.9, and such versatility should help Big Ange’s side whose attacking options have been stretched in recent weeks.

Keeping these factors in mind, Tottenham must do everything within their powers to beat stiff competition from Premier League and European clubs for Tel’s signature as he possesses the qualities to be a long-term asset at White Hart Lane.
