Tottenham star Van de Ven returns to training with comeback imminent
Tottenham Hotspur have not endured the best of runs in the Premier League over the last couple of months, largely owing to their injury concerns, especially at the back. For the better part of the last few fixtures, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie were all sidelined, thus implying that Ange Postecoglou had to work without three of his four regulars.
Spurs have received a massive fitness boost, however, with Micky van de Ven back in training with the first team. The Dutchman was ruled out since December as a result of a hamstring injury. It was the second time in quick succession that he was injured, so in the broader scheme of things, Postecoglou has been without one of his most important players since November.
Van de Ven’s return to training comes at a timely point of the season as Postecoglou’s role had come under tremendous pressure after successive defeats to Everton and Leicester City in the Premier League. The Lilywhites had conceded some cheap goals and were caught napping defensively, something that was a rare occurrence when van de Ven was playing at the back.

The 23-year-old joins Cristian Romero as one of Spurs’ returnees with the Argentine international also training with the team since the last couple of days. It seems as if the duo would be available to Postecoglou for selection in Tottenham Hotspur’s final Europa League match of the season against Swedish side Elfsborg, but it remains to be seen if they are used at all.

Not only have Spurs secured qualification into the next round of the continental cup, but they could do so by finishing in the top 8 and avoid playing two play-off matches next month. With Romero and Van de Ven returning from two injury setbacks in a row, there is no need for them to be rushed back into action, particularly in a competition the team is sitting very comfortably in.
