Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new midfielder in the ongoing winter transfer window as Ange Postecoglou looks to add depth to his roster, and Daniel Levy has been looking at a potential move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.
The Brazilian midfielder has struggled to replicate his Premier League performances in Italy, and now he’s looking back for a possible stint in the English top tier. The 26-year-old has been subject to interest from multiple Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham.
While City has been suffering from injury problems in the middle of the park, they looked at possible possibilities of bringing Luiz to Etihad Stadium on a possible loan deal; however, Juventus are unwilling to sanction a vanilla loan, and they want to put in an option to buy in any possible transfer for the 26-year-old.
City move for Luiz termed unlikely

Now former Spurs scout Mick Brown has suggested that it is highly unlikely for Man City to be moving for Luiz this window, making room for Tottenham to capitalise on the opportunity. Douglas Luiz has shown his attributes in the Premier League for years with Aston Villa, where he not only showed his ability to hold the midfield but also showcased how he can hold and pass the ball in a systematic approach, something that Ange Postecoglou would love to have in his roster.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Football Insider, Brown said:
“I’d be surprised if they made that move. Luiz was at Aston Villa when I was there and there were a few questions about him. He can pass the ball well and he steps into the area to provide a way out for the centre-backs when they’re playing out.
“But he’s not the type of player who will win you the ball back in midfield like Rodri does so well.
“There are plenty of players who, given time and space, can pass the ball. City have got those already.
“A lot of people at Villa regarded him very highly, but they let him go because it wouldn’t have too much of an impact on the way they played.
“Now, he hasn’t been tearing up too many trees in Italy. So I’m not convinced he’s the type of midfielder Man City need, and they’ll know that too.”
