Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a lot of problems with injury this season, especially at the heart of defence with defender Micky van de Ven being an absentee for the majority of the ongoing campaign; however, the Dutchman marked his highly anticipated return from the sidelines in the Lilywhites win over Elfsborg (FT: 3-0) in the Europa League yesterday.
Van de Ven – a much needed return
The former Wolfsburg defender has been serving in the treatment room for a while, with his latest injury problem keeping him at bay for 14 consecutive games across all competitions, and he went on to play the first 45 minutes of the fixture yesterday before eventually being substituted as the North Londoners booked their place in the UEFA’s second tier’s round of 16.
To understand the length of his spell on the sidelines, Van de Ven had not donned the Lilywhites badge since suffering a serious hamstring injury in the London Derby vs. Chelsea on November 6, 2024. And the Spurs supporters would be glad to have their defensive star return back given the injury problems at N17.
Van de Ven took to Instagram to express his delight at returning to full fitness. He wrote:
“Words can’t describe how happy I am to be back.”

Injuries are still a concern at N17
Even with VDV’s return, Ange Postecoglou is still managing a serious injury crisis with the likes of Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie, and Dominic Solanke serving the treatment room, and with the all-important EFL Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool approaching, the North Londoners could be without key players for the crucial fixture.
