Ange Postecoglou remained tight-lipped after being asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of Mathys Tel
Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to aggressive links with Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel in the last couple of days.
There appears to be genuine interest from Spurs in Mathys Tel, who wants to leave Bayern Munich in this transfer window in search of regular game time. The Lilywhites are among several clubs to have gathered information on the France under-21 international and also spoken to his representatives.
Tottenham even had a director in attendance during Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Wednesday night, perhaps trying to thrash out a deal for the teenage prodigy. On Thursday, there was a huge update regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Tel, with the North Londoners thought to have agreed a €60m fee with Bayern. However, the player has not yet chosen to join Ange Postecoglou’s side and personal terms have not been reached.

Ange Postecoglou kept his cards close to his chest over Spurs’ move for Tel after the reported agreement with the German giants. When asked directly about if the North London club have held talks with Bayern about signing the Frenchman, the Australian remained coy and refused to give away any further information on their apparent interest.
“I can’t tell you anything about Tel,” Postecoglou told reporters in his post-match press conference. (h/t Football London). “I’ve been focusing on getting the team prepared tonight.
“Other people are working in the background. As I’ve said all along, I’m allowing them to get on with it and when, and if, there’s any news I’m sure I’ll find out.”
Tel has decided to leave Bayern and is attracting a lot of interest before next week’s transfer deadline. Spurs have become the first team to agree a deal with the Bavarian giants. Big Ange’s urgent need for reinforcements in the forward line has seen the club make a tempting offer, which the Bundesliga outfit have quickly accepted.

The Sarcelles-born talent is believed to be contemplating his options in the final days of the January transfer window. Last season under Thomas Tuchel, Tel scored seven goals and grabbed five assists in an impressive season at the Allianz Arena. However, with Vincent Kompany replacing Tuchel at the start of the season, the youngster’s opportunities have been reduced significantly and the forward has yet to register a goal this term.

Thus, it is quite obvious why the player wants to leave the Bavarian side. Big Ange wants Tel to help him solve Tottenham’s injury crisis, with five attacking players currently sidelined with injury problems. Having agreed a hefty fee with Bayern, the onus is now on Tel whether he wants to join Big Ange’s forces at White Hart Lane or not.
