Tottenham suffer a blow in the pursuit of Yoane Wissa
It has been a season ravaged by injury problems for Tottenham Hotspur, who sit 15th in the Premier League after 23 games. They have made just one addition to their side in the winter window thus far, having signed goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague at the start of the month.
The North Londoners would benefit significantly from another quality forward at this juncture of the campaign amid the ongoing injury crisis. Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert are all sidelined, leaving Ange Postecoglou with only a handful of options in the forward areas of the pitch.
Spurs have been linked with a move for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa over the last few days, as Ange Postecoglou desperately tries to bolster his attacking unit. However, they have been dealt a seismic blow in their pursuit of the DR Congo international.

According to a report from Standard Sport, Tottenham are ‘extremely unlikely’ to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa before Monday’s transfer deadline. The Bees are demanding around £40m to sell their forward before February 3rd transfer deadline, having rejected a £22m bid from Nottingham Forest last week.
Brentford want to keep hold of the African star at this stage of the transfer window. While Spurs have shown an interest in signing the 28-year-old, a transfer to North London looks improbable as the Bees’ boss Thomas Frank wants to keep his attacking options intact for the remainder of the season.
Wissa has shone this season in the wake of Ivan Toney departing to the Saudi Pro League last summer, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in the Premier League for the West Londoners. He has struck a devastating partnership with Bryan Mbeumo in a two-pronged attack under Thomas Frank, as Brentford sit 11th in the Premier League table.

However, Brentford’s reluctance to allow the Congolese to leave so late in the transfer window will come as a big blow for Tottenham, who are desperately light in numbers up front. The Lilywhites are in need of more firepower to help Big Ange achieve the season’s objectives, and a player of Wissa’s quality and experience could have made a huge difference.
