Tottenham’s new signing Kevin Danso has stated that it was an easy decision to swap Lens for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the signing of RC Lens centre-back Kevin Danso on an initial loan with an obligation to buy in the summer.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou stated on Friday that the club might need to strengthen its central defensive unit in the wake of Radu Dragusin’s injury. The Romanian international sustained what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the 3-0 win over IF Elfsborg in the Europa League last week. There are fears that he could miss the remainder of the season and beyond.
Moreover, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have missed significant portions of the campaign due to injury problems, forcing Ange Postecoglou to come up with makeshift solutions, often fielding the likes of Archie Gray and Djed Spence in central defence. Now after Dragusin suffered an injury setback, Spurs decided to move for Lens centre-back Kevin Danso.

After signing on the dotted lines, Danso claimed he wanted to be a “part of the amazing project” under Ange Postecoglou after hearing of Spurs’ interest.
“I have always wanted to play for a big club in the Premier League and Tottenham are exactly that,” the defender told on the club website.
“As soon as you hear of their interest, the only thing you can do is say yes.
“It is an amazing project to be part of and I am happy to be here.”
After beginning his early career with Reading and MK Dons, Danso headed to Germany to join FC Augsburg in January 2014 to continue his development. In the summer of 2019, the 26-year-old joined Southampton on a season-long loan, making 10 appearances at the South Coast in all competitions across the 2019/20 campaign before returning to Augsburg.

This will be the Austrian international’s second adventure in the Premier League, with Tottenham having plucked the defender from under the noses of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves had booked Danso in for a medical last weekend, only for the Lilywhites to move at the 11th hour and complete a successful hijack.

Tottenham’s second signing of the winter transfer window, Danso can make his debut against Liverpool in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final in midweek. He has been registered in time to play in this crucial cup game at Anfield, as Postecoglou and Co. look to end the club’s 17-year-long trophy drought.
That being said, however, whether Danso starts the game against Liverpool or is on the bench will be intriguing to watch.
