Tottenham Hotspur ask Chelsea about signing Joao Felix

After the acquisition of Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring in another defender and a forward on the transfer deadline day.

The North Londoners have become light in the forward areas of the pitch following recent injuries to Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson, while Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert were already sidelined. Ange Postecoglou has only two senior forwards in Son Heung-min and Richarlison at his disposal right now, although the latter cannot be relied upon due to a patchy injury record.

Spurs have been actively trying to recruit a forward since the final week of the transfer window as evidenced by their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel. The French teenager snubbed a chance to sign for Tottenham—although Tel is also wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea.

Chelsea forward Joao Felix has been linked with a move to Tottenham

Now, according to The Telegraph (live blog), Tottenham have enquired Chelsea over the signing of Joao Felix. They showed an interest in the forward during discussions regarding defender Axel Disasi.

Joao Felix has struggled for regular game time on his return to Chelsea last summer—this time permanently from Atletico Madrid after spending a short loan spell at Stamford during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign. The Blues paid a premium to Atletico Madrid when they signed the 25-year-old, but he has not been able to live up to the expectations since the move to Stamford Bridge.

Also, it has to be noted that the Portugal international has managed only three Premier League starts from 20 games across all competitions under Enzo Maresca. The versatile forward has struggled for game time and it is not surprising that he wants to leave Chelsea. As a result, Felix has been linked with Aston Villa and AC Milan as well.

Perhaps a fresh start would be ideal for the Viseu-born talent. The opportunity to play regularly at Tottenham could be an attractive option for Felix. He is capable of operating out wide as well as through the middle as a No.10 and No.19, and such flexibility will be a bonus for Ange Postecoglou if our club can get a deal across the line on the deadline day.

However, the aforementioned report adds that Chelsea would prefer to sell Felix to a club outside of the Premier League as they view Spurs and Villa as rivals.

Thus, Tottenham signing Felix from London rivals Chelsea appears unlikely at this moment. If the Blues are reluctant to sell him to us, we should switch our focus to other forward targets.
