Tottenham will assess defender Micky van de Ven ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg vs Liverpool
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou simply cannot catch a break from injury problems that has been happening in the last few months.
The Greek-Australian tactician has lost Radu Dragusin for the rest of the season with the Romanian centre-back suffering an ACL injury in the Lilywhites Europa League game last week. Dragusin’s injury has depleted Spurs’ defensive roster, with Cristian Romero yet to attain full fitness after returning to full training last month.
Micky van de Ven has endured another injury-hit campaign at White Hart Lane. He has been unfortunate with back-to-back hamstring injuries that his limited his presence on the pitch for Ange Postecoglou’s side. The Netherlands international recently returned from two months on the sidelines, playing the opening 45 minutes in Spurs’ 3-0 win over IF Elfsborg in the Europa League last week.
However, the 23-year-old was an absentee in the Tottenham squad last weekend that registered a 2-0 win over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. The news of Micky van de Ven missing from the squad led to Tottenham fans sweating over another potential injury setback.
Now, ahead of Tottenham’s crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool on Thursday, club insider Paul O Keefe has dropped the latest update on Van de Ven’s fitness. He has revealed on his X account that the Lilywhites’ medical team have been assessing the Dutchman ahead of the trip to Anfield.
“No official word or information on whether something was discovered,” Paul O Keefe tweeted on Tuesday.
Ange Postecoglou explained on Sunday why Van de Ven was not in the Tottenham squad for their Premier League trip to Brentford. The 59-year-old revealed they were managing the central defender’s minutes following a quick turnaround.
Tottenham completed the signing of Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens last weekend and he could be involved against Liverpool in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. Fans would hope to see Van de Ven return to the starting XI and help the team reach the competition’s final.
