Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane for a while now, and the Argentine defender could be looking to compound on his transfer after the conclusion of the ongoing 2024/25 season.
The World Cup winner is serving the sidelines with an injury at the moment, and it doesn’t appear that he is anywhere near his return at the moment. And now there are suggestions that the 26-year-old’s appearances donning the Spurs badge could be limited now, given how Daniel Levy went to offer up to £70 million to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi on deadline day.
Does Guehi bid cite potential Cristian Romero exit?

John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, insists that Romero’s time at Tottenham could be building towards a possible exit, citing how Spurs went on to bid a significant amount to land a marquee defender yesterday.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, the podcast host said:
“If Tottenham did offer up to £70m for Guéhi, that is an extreme amount of money. It would probably make him one of the most expensive defenders of all time. Therefore, that tells me the club are planning for the departure of Romero, especially as no progress has been made on extending his contract.
“I do think we have to consider that as a real reality now. I like Guéhi, I think he is a good defender. However, is he worth £70m, that I’m not so sure of?”
Cristian Romero has played a significant role at White Hart Lane since moving to the Premier League, and that earned him links with a move to the likes of Real Madrid. However, the Argentine hasn’t been putting in such performances of late with his form highly struggling, and he was caught out multiple times where his mistakes led to goals before his eventual injury concerns that have kept him on the sidelines.
It is to be seen where this one goes, but at the moment it looks highly probable that Romero is certain for an eventual exit given how Levy is not the one to throw money, and a £70m bid means he would be overseeing a marquee departure in the defence that needs to be filled out.
