“Bit of a concern for me…” – Club insider cites Saliba while expressing doubt over Tottenham’s latest defensive reinforcement

Ange Postecoglou & Daniel Levy had been scrapping for a new defender in the recently concluded winter window, and the North Londoners did manage to bring in Kevin Danso, with the Lens defender moving to White Hart Lane in a loan transfer, with the Lilywhites putting in a commitment to buy the 26-year-old after beating fellow Premier League rivals Wolves to his signature.

And the Austrian international is apparently already a key figure at N17 given how Radu Dragusin has picked up a season-ending injury. The 23-year-old former Genoa ace picked up a season-ending ACL injury last week and already looks to be one of the first names that Ange Postecoglou will have to count on at Hotspur Way.

Doubt on Danso…

It is expected that Danso will make his Tottenham debut against Liverpool later today, with the Lilywhites scheduled to play the Reds in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield Stadium. And John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, has expressed doubts over the former Southampton defender’s ability to slot straight into the thick of things at the heart of defence while citing the likes of William Saliba and Leny Yoro.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, the podcast host said:

“Danso isn’t actually someone that I know too much about. However, I do think to myself that he is 26, he’s been playing in the French league for a long time, and none of the other clubs have touched him.

“Some of these scouts have been on extensive missions in France scouting the likes of William Saliba, Wesley Fofana and Leny Yoro. However, nobody has picked up on Danso before. As a result, that is a bit of a concern for me.

“I hope I’m wrong and he comes in and smashes it. However, that does ring some alarm bells for me.”

Postecoglou doesn’t have much of a choice…

Going into the game against Anre Slot’s Merseysiders, Micky van de Ven appears to be still rusty given he is making a comeback from a long-term injury, and it doesn’t look likely that his partner in crime, Cristian Romero, will return soon—making it ideal for Danso to start alongside the Dutch defender at the heart of defence.
