Daniel Levy did come through in the recently concluded transfer window, bringing in some exceptional talent through the doors at White Hart Lane; however, it was one of those deadline days where rumours were flying high and dry, one of them linking Aston Villa wide forward Leon Bailey with a surprise move to North London.
It was one of those news items that looked desperate on the Lilywhites part, and the North Londoners technical director, Johan Lange, has received wide criticism for the club’s (what looked like) disjointed approach to the transfer, where everything was more reactive than a strong sense of following a blueprint going into the window.
Wenham criticises Lange for Bailey links

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Lilywhites made a late attempt to sign the 27-year-old; however, a report by Sky Sports News a bit later insisted that Bailey is unlikely to leave Villa Park, leaving the Lilywhites rather more desperate in that moment.
And John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, has criticised Lange and Tottenham’s approach in the transfer window, citing Bailey’s interest.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, the podcast host said:
“That is massively underwhelming. Why is Lange picking up the phone to call Villa, they’ve gone and signed Marcus Rashford because Bailey isn’t good enough.
“Therefore, why are we going to take him off their hands? No, I’m sorry, it just isn’t good enough. Have some shame, have some respect. Bailey should never be coming to a club like Tottenham.”
We can speak about Bailey and Lange all we want; however, the fact that Daniel Levy managed to get Mathys Tel through the doors at Hotspur Way on deadline day is one of the highlights of the winter window. Ange Postecoglou will not only enjoy a credible presence in his forward line but also add one of the most highly rated sensations in European football to his roster.
