Tottenham saw a bid rejected for Marc Guehi by Crystal Palace late in the January transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur had a pretty eventful January transfer window as they made three new first-team signings to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
The Lilywhites jumped at the opportunity to sign young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague in the first week of January. After a period of lull that saw the club explore multiple options, they signed defender Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens late in the transfer window.
Daniel Levy then delivered the bombshell on transfer deadline day as Mathys Tel joined on loan from Bayern Munich amid interest from several Premier League clubs. Spurs were also interested in a player and had made a “secret bid” in the final days of the winter transfer window.
The player here in question is Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. It was reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano who broke the news of Tottenham submitting a late bid for Marc Guehi. They had tabled a £70 million proposal, which was quickly rejected by the Eagles before Danso’s acquisition on loan.

While Spurs failed to land their primary defensive target of the winter transfer window, Fabrizio Romano claims the North Londoners could still revive their interest in Guehi and make a bid in the summer.
“That’s also a good story, because as we said before, earlier today (Monday) there was interest from Tottenham,” Romano said on GIVEMESPORT’s ‘Market Madness’ Podcast.
“There was also an important bid, around £65-70million. It wasn’t today (Monday), but two or three days ago, a secret bid was made by Tottenham.
“But the intention of Crystal Palace is clear. The player is not leaving. The player is not available on the market, so I didn’t expect any surprise in the final hours of the window, but they expect him to go in the summer.
“He has just one year left on his contract, so I see Marc Guehi leaving the club in the summer transfer window.”

Guehi has been fantastic in a Palace shirt for several years and after how he performed for England at the 2024 European Championship in Germany, his reputation has been further enhanced. The 24-year-old has come leaps and bounds in his career since leaving his boyhood club Chelsea permanently, establishing himself as one of the most reliable centre-backs in the Premier League.
The England international has stood out for the Eagles in an otherwise disappointing season, scoring three goals in 23 Premier League appearances. Given his leadership skills, experience and mixture of technical skills and physicality, it is easy to see why Guehi is being courted by top Premier League clubs.

Despite failing to land him last month, Tottenham must revive their interest in Palace’s defensive lynchpin in the summer. Guehi is set to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season when he will have just one year remaining in his contract, with Chelsea and Newcastle thought to be plotting moves. So, Ange Postecoglou’s club will have some competition to stave off to get the player’s signature.
