Daniel Levy had been juggling and moving from one target to another as Tottenham Hotspur looked to add another forward to their roster at White Hart Lane, and following a lot of moving targets and change of priorities, the Lilywhites managed to land Bayern Munich sensation Mathys Tel on deadline day, which was practically one of the highlight moves of the winter window.
The North Londoners managed to land one of the brightest talents in world football on an initial loan deal for the second half of the season, with Spurs holding an option to make his stay at N17 permanent for a €55m option on a possible 6-year contract in the upcoming summer transfer window.
MacAnthony left amazed at Tel fees

Following the conclusion of the transfer, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony expressed his amazement at the transfer and the fees involved. While discussing Tel’s transfer to White Hart Lane, he expressed how the Frenchman cost the Lilywhites a pretty penny while taking a dig at the cost of English talents.
Speaking on talkSPORT, MacAnthony said:
“Don’t ever tell me English players are expensive, by the way. A 19-year-old for £50m, who has scored four goals for Bayern Munich.
“I laugh. I find it funny that people are getting excited about a 19-year-old no one had heard of two weeks ago; that’s where we are with deadline day. I hope it works for Spurs; I hope he’s a superstar; I hope he’s the second coming of whoever else at 19. Really, £50m? And the kids are getting the last laugh.”
Tottenham embarrassed Manchester United in signing Tel, and despite all the concerns about the transfer and potential of where this goes given how his development took at Stillpoint since moving to Bayern. But if Tel does unleash his potential and raw grit, the Lilywhites supporters are going to be in for a treat, and that transfer fee would look like a bargain.
