Tottenham have announced the signing of young striker Mason Melia from St Patrick’s Athletic
Tottenham Hotspur had a busy end to the winter transfer window, with Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel joining late on deadline day after a lengthy pursuit. Before Tel’s acquisition, they reinforced the defensive unit by adding Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens.
Despite the window slamming shut on February 3, the North Londoners officially announced yet another winter signing and this time it is a young striker from St Patrick’s Athletic, Mason Melia.
In the last two months, Spurs were linked with a move for Mason Melia. He made history in 2024 by becoming the youngest goalscorer in League of Ireland history when he netted against UCD at just 15 years and 281 days old. The teenager has made 54 appearances for St Patrick’s Athletic, scoring 10 goals. He earned his first call-up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad in October 2024, further stressing his growing reputation.

Melia has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at Spurs until 2031. However, due to Brexit-related regulations, he will not be able to officially join the club until January 2026, when he turns 18—as revealed via the club’s official statement.
According to the Sun reporter Tom Barclay, St Patrick’s Athletic are guaranteed a £1.6m fee up front plus add-ons from Tottenham. In a separate report from the Irish Examiner, Spurs will pay an incremental bonuses and a 20% slice of profit on any future sale of the player. Once the young striker passed his medical tests on Tuesday, the transfer was confirmed by both clubs.
The Lilywhites know very well how valuable it can be to invest in young talents with the potential to develop. Melia has been showcasing his talent in the League of Ireland, which got multiple sides in Britain looking to seal his signature.

Richarlison’s struggles to establish himself at White Hart Lane have left the club searching for solutions. If the Brazilian is offloaded at the end of the season owing to his fitness concerns, Melia could potentially become his long-term replacement. However, as Melia is very young and raw, the club will also require an experienced striker to complement the Irish talent.
