Tottenham defender to miss out on Liverpool semi-final clash, Postecoglou confirms

published :

Ange Postecoglou has been dealing with injury problems in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign, and that has been a key component in the derailed season that the North Londoners have endured at N17 and how a lot about the Lilywhites pursuit of silverware comes down to today, and Spurs supporters have been sweating about Micky van de Ven’s injury ahead of their second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield Stadium.

Tottenham will go into the second leg with one foot in the finals thanks to their 1-0 lead that they claimed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the first leg.

Micky van de Ven has been struggling with injuries this season and has been a consistent presence in the treatment room this season after having missed a fair part of this season. He did make his return in the Lilywhites’ win over Elfsborg in the Europa League, playing 45 minutes before being subbed off in what looked like a planned substitution at halftime.

And the North Londoners went on to lose Radu Dragusin in the second half of the same game, with the Romanian centre-back suffering an ACL injury in the 66th minute and is set to miss the remainder of the season.

No Van de Ven?

Ange Postecoglou has given a bit of a winter transfer update following their 2-1 defeat against Leicester City.

Now going into the game against the Reds at Merseyside, Tottenham’s Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou confirmed that their Dutch defender will miss the game tomorrow. Speaking ahead of the semi-final clash, the former Celtic manager said (via. Football.London):

“Micky got through the game [against Elfsborg] alright but I don’t think he feels ready for the step up in intensity to the Premier League. After losing Radu, and this is my view, I don’t want to risk losing them. The other guys are inching closer as well.”

With Micky and Dragusin, it is to be seen who lines up at the heart of defence, we could possibly see Kevin Danso make his Tottenham debut.
