Tottenham have snapped up Chelsea academy talent Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny on deadline day
Tottenham Hotspur have arguably been one of the busiest Premier League sides on the winter transfer deadline day.
The Lilywhites welcomed both Yang Min-hyeok and Antonin Kinsky at the start of January, although a deal for the former was cracked last summer. They added Kevin Danso on loan from French side RC Lens with an obligation to sign in June to boost Ange Postecoglou’s defensive roster which has been hit by multiple injuries.
The Hotspur Way chiefs surprised the fanbase on the deadline day by agreeing a loan deal with Bayern Munich for talented forward Mathys Tel. The Frenchman’s acquisition is a significant coup for Daniel Levy, having initially been rejected by the player. For Ange Postecoglou, it is a relief that the club brought someone through the N17 doors to boost the forward line, given the fact that he has the likes of Dominic Solanke, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert on the sidelines.
Apart from bagging Tel’s signature, Tottenham have also bolstered their youth ranks. According to transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano via X, Chelsea youngster Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny has joined Tottenham with a formal announcement expected on Tuesday.
This comes after Spurs signed teenage midfield talent Dan Batty from the Manchester City academy last week. Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny has featured nine times for Chelsea Under-21s in the Premier League 2 this season, scoring three times. However, he was yet to get near to a senior squad at Stamford Bridge.
A central midfielder by trade who can also operate as a No.6, Russell-Denny has been a part of the Chelsea academy since the age of eight. He signed his first professional contract with the Blues in October 2023, but after perhaps sensing opportunities are unlikely to come in the first team, the teenager has decided to make the switch across the capital to Enfield.

Tottenham have tasted huge success with the deals to sign youngsters such as Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall in recent years, and they will hope that is repeated with Russell-Denny from Chelsea even though he is not considered for Postecoglou’s first team squad this season.
