Daniel Levy delivered a massive statement on the deadline day with the Lilywhites concluding the signing of French sensation Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich as Ange Postecoglou (and Tottenham Hotspur fans) breathed a sigh of relief with the addition of depth and a dynamic player in the offensive roster, especially following all the associated injuries at White Hart Lane.
The Lilywhites were scrambling for a forward all winter window long with multiple moves not going their way, but the chiefs at Hotspur Way reacted brilliantly to not only get their hands on Tel, who is one of Europe’s most exciting and promising young forwards, but also convince him to move to North London after his initial rejection.
Spurs also hold an option to convert what is now an initial loan deal into a permanent prospect when the summer transfer window comes around in a possible €55m deal, which will see the 19-year-old pen down a six-year contract at N17.
Chelsea made a late Tel attempt

However, while Tottenham were pursuing a move for Tel on deadline day, their London rivals Chelsea made a late attempt to hijack the move per L’Equipe, although the attempt was in vain given the player’s concrete decision to move to White Hart Lane.
It is interesting to understand this attempted hijack. While Chelsea are far above Spurs in the Premier League table at the moment, their transfer strategy of hoarding young players against Tottenham’s of nurturing them into their potential is clearly visible. And that could have played a part in Tel’s decision and should continue to do so every time both clubs rub shoulders for a probable transfer.
