Boost for Postecoglou as Tottenham duo in contention to face Liverpool

Tottenham are interested in signing Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen.

New Tottenham signings Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel are available to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is arguably preparing for the biggest game of the season on Thursday evening.

Spurs travel to Anfield to face Liverpool for the return leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. With the Lilywhites leading 1-0 after the first leg, thanks to a late goal from Lucas Bergvall, the prospect of Arne Slot’s side staging a comeback would be one that Ange Postecoglou and his travelling troops would be fearful of.

The North Londoners made a couple of signings before the January transfer window slammed shut. They added to their defensive unit by securing a loan move for Kevin Danso from RC Lens, before surprising almost every single fan by getting the signature of talented forward Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich on the deadline day.

Ange Postecoglou faced the media for pre-match duties on Wednesday afternoon. The Australian tactician confirmed that both his new signings, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, are available for selection vs Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

“For availability from last week, everyone fine. Kevin and Mathys are both available and have trained. The rest of them, no one available for tomorrow,” Postecoglou told Football London.

Considering Tottenham hold a one-goal advantage against Liverpool and are just a step away from a cup final, Postecoglou has to field his best XI on Thursday. It is a shame that he will travel to Liverpool with a depleted squad, having recently lost Radu Dragusin to a serious season-ending injury.

Big Ange confirmed that Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero will both miss the match against Liverpool and is playing it safe, rather than delivering another depressing update for Spurs fans to intake. And with Danso only having a couple of training sessions with the team, we should expect Archie Gray to start alongside Ben Davies in central defence.

Tel, like Danso, should also start on the bench, with Big Ange likely to go with Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski as his attacking trio. Our forwards have to be clinical when they get chances against a well-drilled Liverpool defence.

Spurs players will have to give their everything to beat Slot’s side and advance to the Carabao Cup, where they will either face Newcastle United or Arsenal.
