Sergio Reguilon could still depart Tottenham Hotspur this February
Tottenham Hotspur made a defensive addition in the winter transfer window as Kevin Danso joined the club. The 26-year-old joined on loan from Ligue 1 outfit RC Lens, which was a vital acquisition by the board following Radu Dragusin’s ACL tear. Injuries at the back have been a common factor for Spurs this season and it is not only the central defenders who have had their share of misfortune.

Among those currently on the sidelines is the team’s primary left-back Destiny Udogie, who will serve approximately two more weeks on the treatment table. The 22-year-old’s back-up in Djed Spence has done well and his performances have poured water over Sergio Reguilon’s hopes of playing any minutes in recent matches after being frozen out of the first team by Ange Postecoglou.
According to Diario AS, his exit remains a possibility in the very near future owing to interest from Istanbul’s crosstown rivals Besiktas and Galatasaray. The transfer window in Turkey is open until February 11th, which is why both clubs still have room to make newer purchases. It is not the first time Reguilon has been linked with clubs from the Super Lig with Fenerbahce also keen last summer.
In spite of interest from Turkey, as well as from AS Monaco and the Saudi Pro League in recent weeks, Daniel Levy is reportedly reluctant to let go of the former Real Madrid full-back as he sees him as a crucial fixture in the squad, especially in a difficult time for Postecoglou who has had to deal with persistent injury troubles ever since the 2024/25 season got underway last August.

Reguilon will be free to depart the club in six months and a possible exit to newer ventures right now would mean Spurs earn a minimal transfer fee for him, while also seeing their wage liability towards the Spaniard get nullified. Therefore, it remains to be seen what comes of his future at Tottenham, especially should Reguilon ask to leave for regular minutes in the second half of the campaign.
