Daniel Levy’s transfer roulette: Tottenham wanted 16 G/A English sensation before pivoting to Tel

published :

Daniel Levy was involved in a forward target roulette along the winter transfer window, which saw Tottenham Hotspur being linked with multiple players that could revamp their front line, but none of those transfers materialised until the 62-year-old club chairman knocked it out of the park with the Mathys Tel transfer; however, before considering the Frenchman, the chiefs at Hotspur Way were looking at Borussia Dortmund’s English sensation Jamie Gittens, per The Athletic.

Gittens is a highly regarded prospect who not only possesses flair but also has a great ability to take a grip on the game. He has been showcasing a lot of his talent with the German giants, having 16 goal contributions in all competitions. The North Londoners wanted to bring him to White Hart Lane as a support for South Korean ace Heung Min Son.

Tel is a Gittens alternative…

Tottenham were keen on Gittens before they signed Tel.

The 20-year-old is highly regarded across Europe, and while Levy tried to snap his services, he couldn’t conclude any possible deal, and Tottenham pivoted to other giants of German football, Bayern Munich, as they signed Mathys Tel.

That being said, even if there was a deal to be done, Dortmund would have asked for a significant financial exchange for any Gittens transfer.

Ideally, the chiefs at N17 did well to not only pivot but also ensure that they brought in an attractive prospect to Ange Postecoglou’s roster in Tel.

However, Tottenham should again be in the market for another forward when the summer window comes around, and we will see if Levy will revamp his interest in Dortmund’s wide forward.
