While all hopes of the season came down to one night at Anfield Stadium, an underwhelming outing from Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur not only saw them knocked out of the EFL Cup but also saw them humiliated as the Reds ran riot; however, in all gloomy circumstances, there was a bright spot, Spurs’ 32-year-old South Korean skipper Heung Min Son.
Son looked like his old self…

The Merseysiders went through to Wembley Stadium with a 4-0 win over Spurs, and while the scoreline makes each of the Tottenham players worthy of a talking to, former Arsenal man Alan Smith insisted that Son was reminiscent of his old self, and it could be a huge thing for the North Londoners season.
Speaking in his co-commentary role with Sky Sports, Smith said (via. Tottenham News):
“It’s like the Son of old. Positive, a bit more end product, very nearly a goal which would’ve lifted a few heads and made things a bit more interesting.”
Not much left this season, yet something to salvage
While the visitors went into the game with a 1-0 lead, they never really showed up, and this lack of fight is a cause of concern for Spurs supporters. Son’s missed chance was the closest that Ange’s side came to putting their mark on the game.
For Tottenham, as they get ruled out of another silverware opportunity, they ideally now have two fronts to fight for, the Europa League and FA Cup. And for the North Londoners, they’d be hopeful that their misfiring skipper finally finds his old self and starts putting in some goals that have made him an icon at White Hart Lane. And if Son can regain his old form, it could provide the much-needed spark that Postecoglou desperately needs to turn the Lilywhites season around.
