Both Tottenham are Arsenal entered the recently-concluded January transfer window looking at options in the forward department, and the former managed to get the upper hand by at least getting a short-term fix with Mathys Tel’s loan move.

Both sides remain on the lookout for a more permanent solution, however, and looks like they may be ready to go head-to-had for a mutual target in the summer.

Tottenham could battle Arsenal for Ferran Torres in the summer

As reported by Sport Witness, a North London tussle could ensure over Barcelona forward Ferran Torres in the summer, with both Tottenham and Arsenal keen on reinforcing themselves up front.

Having moved to Catalonia from Man City three years ago in a €55m move, Torres has failed to cement a starting place for himself in that time despite fleeting moments of brilliance.

Having missed nearly two months’ worth of action this season due to a hamstring injury, the Spain international has registered ten goals and three assists from 24 appearances across all competitions for the Blaugrana.

AC Milan were also in for the 24-year-old, though Barça were not interested in a mid-season sale, which prompted the Rossoneri to get João Félix on loan from Chelsea instead.

TTLB Opinion

For both Arsenal and Spurs, the biggest point of concern ought to be this, Torres was out with a hamstring injury not just towards the end of last year but also at the start—both roughly two-month-long layoffs. Barring this, he does not have a troubling injury record, though caution is always recommended.

Especially in Tottenham’s case, it’s important to monitor the injury records of potential targets. Muscular injuries come about very frequently under Postecoglou, so it’s best not to on-board a player already riddled with them.

In terms of profile, Torres is a versatile forward with age on his side who can play anywhere across the front line—a typical Postecoglou forward. Even if the Australian coach does not last beyond the season at Tottenham, this is a player the club should pursue.
