Tottenham held an interest in signing AC Milan winger Samuel Chkwueze on the transfer deadline day
Tottenham Hotspur made a late dash in the January transfer window. Indeed, they were making plenty of moves towards the end of the transfer window.
Kevin Danso arrived on loan from French side RC Lens last weekend, while the Lilywhites’ bid for Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi was rejected.
The most notable arrival at the club on transfer deadline day was Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. The highly-rated French forward made a dramatic U-turn late in the day, joining Ange Postecoglou’s forces on loan for the rest of the season. The chiefs at the Hotspur Way also signed teenage prodigy Mason Melia from St Patrick’s Athletic before loaning him back to the Irish club until the end of the campaign.

A relatively strong end to the window, even if the club could have done with another forward given the injuries to Dominic Solanke, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert. Now, according to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham considered the signing of AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze aside from Tel.
Spurs’ interest in Samuel Chukwueze never became concrete and turned into a bid on the deadline day. The Nigerian international has had an inconsistent season with AC Milan and has not fully integrated into new manager Sergio Conceicao’s plans. As a result, several teams including Spurs were keeping a close watch on him as they looked to strengthen their squads before the transfer window slammed shut.
Nothing materialised eventually and the 25-year-old stayed at Milan. Nevertheless, Chukwueze’s exit from the San Siro Stadium is still a possibility, especially since the transfer market in Turkey is still open.

Coming back to Tottenham, missing out on a player of Chukwueze’s quality should be deemed as a big blow for Big Ange. The chiefs at the Hotspur Way had the chance to bring in someone of the African’s talents in wide areas currently lacking in Big Ange’s squad, and they failed in doing so. He could have addressed Spurs’ lack of quality and depth in wide areas, given the fact that Werner is sidelined with injury and Son Heung-min’s powers are declining.

Moreover, Richarlison has now suffered a fresh injury which further highlights why Tottenham made a big mistake by not pressing ahead with their plans to sign Chukwueze. The former Villarreal man could have also been a potential game-changer from the bench for Big Ange’s Spurs.
