Details of Tottenham target Matheus Cunha’s release clause from new Wolves contract emerges
Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha was subject to aggressive links with Tottenham Hotspur during the winter transfer window.
The North Londoners were keen to sign a striker in the recently concluded January transfer window and had made Matheus Cunha one of their targets. However, a move didn’t materialise and they had to settle for another player in Mathys Tel, who arrived at N17 on loan from Bayern Munich on the deadline day.
It’s worth mentioning that this season, Cunha has scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 23 appearances in the Premier League. He has been Wolves’ standout player in an otherwise dismal campaign, impressing with his ability to influence games. The Brazilian’s productivity in the final third have caught the attention of several clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Wolves have revealed their release clause for Cunha amid interest from Tottenham. The 25-year-old, one of the hottest properties in Premier League football—signed a four-and-a-half-year contract over the weekend to commit his immediate future at Molineux (Transfermarkt). The deal does include a release clause that becomes active at the end of the season.
After penning fresh terms with the Wanderers, Cunha’s release clause is set at £62million. The aforementioned report adds there are no limitations on which clubs can trigger the player’s buyout clause when it comes into effect.
As it will become active in the summer, the Hotspur Way bosses will have a clear view at what positions they need to strengthen ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. They will set to face competition from plenty of clubs, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Man United and Nottingham Forest having monitored the versatile forward.

A player of Cunha’s calibre, versatility and class would be an ideal replacement for Richarlison, who has been linked with a sensational return to Everton in the summer. The ex-Atletico Madrid man would lift Tottenham’s technical flooring whilst adding strength in depth in the forward areas of the pitch. Also, he is yet to enter the prime stages of his career which Big Ange’s side could enjoy if they manage to lure him to White Hart Lane.
